As usual, I'm missing Texas real bad. But I've definitely grown comfortable with the lifestyle here in Silicon Valley. And I've grown quite attached to all the people I've become friends with. I tell them that it's kind of like The Breakfast Club. We all, by sheer luck or coincidence, have been put into the same environment. In the end, we're all friends, though whether or not we will continue to be friends in the future is uncertain. By the end of the summer, people will be moving back to Illinois, Toronto, Texas, and some will remain in the Bay Area. It makes me kind of sad to think about that.
Now on a lighter note, I have been having a lot of fun here. Last Sunday, August 1, I saw Wicked at the Orpheum Theater in SF with Boyce, Teddy, Geets and her boyfriend, Rohan. It was a wonderful production. The sets, the actors, the songs -- all stellar. I finally got to hear those songs everyone in high school used to sing all the damn time.
Kerryck's brother, Bryce, also came last weekend on 7/31. It was his 18th birthday that day, and Mai, Eric, and I took care of him while his brother worked (yes, on a Saturday -- it was absolutely ridiculous). He's a good guy. Though they look nothing alike, they sure do act alike. It's amusing. Anyways, today we sent Bryce off at SFO. It's back to Canada for him.
And yesterday, I went to Yosemite National Park with Geetanjali, her family, Teddy and Shirley, Robert, Quinn and his +2 (Andrew and Laura). Though, I'm not the most outdoorsy person and though it was irritating getting into the park with all of the traffic, I was definitely glad I went. It's a gorgeous place.
We hiked maybe 5 miles total and we went to two waterfalls. One was Vernal Falls. I forget the other's name. There wasn't a lot of water flow since it's the end of the summer, but I hear it's really great in the spring time. In order to get up to Vernal Falls, we had to climb up 600 steps. It was tough! But the top was definitely worth it. There was a thunderstorm and I saw rain in Calif. for the first time since coming out here. It was so refreshing.
Just to wrap this up: I love Geetanjali's family and family friends. They fed us lunch and dinner. By the end of the day, I called her mom and one of the other women "Auntie." Man, could they not contain themselves. I'm just so charming!
